The Most
Students do PartySafe@Cal campaign aims to correct student misperceptions
of norms related to drinking. The following data is collected during
the California Safer Schools Survey in the fall. We use it to measure
our progress.
Number
of Drinks Consumed: Myself vs. My Friends
The following shows the difference between the number of drinks Cal
undergraduates think they drink compared to their friends. The gap is
quite large. Students generally overestimate how much others drink,
including their close friends.

Number
of Drinks Consumed: Perception Gap
The following tables and graphs illustrate that the perception gap between
the number of drinks consumed at a party by themselves vs. their friends
has grown smaller from 2007 to 2008. The Most Students Do PartySafe@Cal
campaign began in January 2008. Reducing students' overestimation of
how much other students drink is a primary campaign objective.
Frequency
of Drinking: Myself vs. My Friends
The following shows the difference between the frequency of drinking
Cal undergraduates perceive of themselves compared to their friends.
Again, the gap is quite large. Students generally overestimate how often
others drink, including their close friends.
Frequency
of Drinking: Perception Gap
The following table and graph illustrate that the perception gap about
the frequency of student drinking vs. their friends drinking has grown
smaller from 2007 to 2008. The Most Students Do PartySafe@Cal campaign
began in January 2008. Reducing students' overestimation of how often
other students drink is a primary campaign objective.
