College Drinking: Consumption and Harm

More UCB Data

The more alcohol a person consumes, the more likely he or she is to experience negative consequences.

Binge drinking levels and beyond have a significant impact on college students' academic performance, social relationships, risk taking behaviors, and health. Half of frequent binge drinkers, those who drink 4/5 or more drinks (4 drinks for women, 5 drinks for men) three or more times in a two-week period report experiencing five or more alcohol-related problems (Wechsler and Nelson, 2008).

The national data in the table below conveys the relationship between the usual number of drinks consumed when drinking and college students' self-reported alcohol-related injury.
