Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week - Oct. 18-25, 2009

Sober Weekend - Oct. 22-24, 2009

In the News

It's a challenge to abstain from alcohol for three days. Can you do it?

Why do it?
There are as many reasons to participate in Sober Weekend as there are people. Some that we've heard include:

"To see if I can do it."
"I'll try anything once."
"Because it's important to take breaks from patterns that can become addictive."
"It will be easy and maybe I'll win a prize."
"My roommate doesn't drink, so I'll keep her company."

What does it take to participate?
Just you. There's nothing you have to join or buy. You simply commit to stay sober for three days.

Tips for Success
Make an advance plan: list and schedule activities for yourself that are fun, relaxing, and made you feel good.
Consider staying away from people who will be drinking and settings where it's likely to be going on.
Plan rewards for yourself as you pass certain milestones throughout day 1, 2, and 3, i.e. buy yourself a new music, reading, clothing, food treat; schedule time with a good friend or an extra length work-out at the gym.

Make it a class or group project!
Help Promote - make it a class, living residence or team project!
1. Recruit a group of friends or other students to pledge to do Sober Weekend.
2. Write an article or make a flier to distribute.
3. Ask course instructor to incorporate it into class assignment.
